First visit to the Grand Sumo Tournament
- Latter part -

Vol.4

Now there’s nothing to do but to leave. But because the station gets crowded it may be better to spend some time in one of the surrounding chanko nabe (sumo style stew) restaurants talking about the match or looking at the pictures on your digi-cam.

Although, saying so, I myself headed home fighting back the temptation of the chanko.

"It was already dark outside"
The sound of the drums on the tower made the day even more memorable.

"The main gate was crowded with people leaving Kokugikan"
The content of the bags they’re carrying is leftover of the lunch box available on the first floor.
I hear that they take it home because there’s too much that they can’t finish.

This was my very first time to watch a sumo match, but I think it was really worth seeing.
All the crashing battles of the rikishi who are twice as much bigger than myself, the fierce defense and offense at the ring rim, the ritual performances respectable and solemn were very impressive.
If you get a chance to visit Tokyo in January, May or September, do come see a real sumo match.
There are more chances to watch sumo: the Grand Sumo Tournaments are held in March in Osaka, July in Nagoya and November in Fukuoka.

You can also watch sumo outside of Japan. Although no tournaments are held overseas, some rikishi make a tour of performances. If there are any matches held nearby, I strongly recommend you to go watch it.

"The Ryogoku Kokugikan lit up a night"
After the matches are over and the sun has gone down,
this arena silently holds the remnants of the excitement.

Do visit when you come to Tokyo!

Now that we have gone through real sumo,
let's try making and playing withpaper rikishi.
