The 4th holding of the fashion spectacle TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION for this year’s Spring/Summer girl’s fashion will move its venue this time from Tokyo to Yokohama. Just about 60 most popular and “charismatic” fashion models today including Ebihara Yuri, Oshikiri Moe, Tsuchiya Anna and more walk the 45-meter-long dazzling and glittering cross runway showing the newest items for this year’s spring and summer seasons from the most popular Japanese fashion brands.

2/8 Thursday – 3/8 Thursday | 50th Yushima Tenmangu Plum Blossom Festival
 
Yushima Tenmangu (aka Yushima Tenjin) containing about 300 plum trees that are about 70-80 years old, has been known as one of the best places in Tokyo to enjoy plum blossoms (ume in Japanese) since the Edo Period. The history of the plum festival dates back to 1958, welcoming its 50th opening this spring. Roughly 450,000 people visit the festival, and the event has settled as a symbol of early spring across the nation. There will be a number of subevents held such as the Japanese drums performance, monkey performance, outdoors tea ceremony, karaoke contest and so on. Aside from the festival, February is also the season when the shrine is filled with examinees for entrance exams for various kinds of schools.

2/24 Saturday – 3/4 Sunday | Katsuura Big Hinamatsuri
 
The Katsuura Big Hinamatsuri takes place for a week to celebrate the Girl’s Festival coming up this Saturday on March 3rd. Joined by approximately 7,000 hina dolls offered from Katsuura Town in Tokushima Prefecture, a member of the “Japan Katsuura Network” (joined by the towns and cities named Katsuura all over Japan), the festival features more than 20,000 hina dolls and bonbori flower decorations all together during the week. Main venue civic hall provides the largest Kyoho-Bina dolls, Tomimisaki Shrine the outdoors hina decoration with 1,200 dolls lined on 60 steps, and the Enomoto Collection shows 60 kinds of hina dolls gathered from 22 prefectures. The outdoors decoration are illuminated at evenings.

The Jindaiji Temple Daruma Fair taking place every year on March 3rd and 4th dating back its origin to mid-Edo Period has become the symbolic event of the beginning of spring over the years. A number of stalls line up the main approach and the temple grounds adding cheery mood to the centuries-long ritual and event.
